The latest edition of the Australian PhotoJournalist, Epilogue, will be launched as part of the Giving Voice Through Social Documentary Forum, presented in conjunction with the Museum of Brisbane and University of Queensland Centre for Communication and Social Change, 1-5pm on Saturday 27 August 2011. Epilogue is now available to buy online.
This public forum reveals the importance of this practice and how it becomes a powerful channel for the international examination of human rights and social justice. The panel of speakers will discuss their commitment to providing a platform for issues that touch us all and how their individual work
also gives voice to those who have none.
Angela Blakely and David Lloyd have collaborated as social documentary photographers since 1994. Currently working at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, their work has photo documented the immediate effects of those who, through personal or social trauma, have been rendered invisible and powerless.
Joining Blakely and Lloyd is special international guest, acclaimed and multi-award winning photographer, human rights activist and teacher from Bangladesh, Shahidul Alam. Alam has previously been a jury member and judge of the prestigious World Press Photo competition and is the founder of several photographic based schools and organisations. These include Majority World, a global community interest initiative formed to provide a platform and to champion Indigenous photographers and photographic agencies within their native countries.
Tracey Foley will discuss the work of Amnesty International, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary In 2011. During that time this nongovernment organisation has remained committed to generating action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights, and demanding justice for those whose rights have been violated.
The forum will conclude with a panel discussion and be followed by the launch of Epilogue, the latest edition of the Australian Photojournalist.
